Like humans, guinea pigs cannot synthesise vitamin C and must get it from their diet. Deficiency causes scurvy, so use guinea-pig-specific pellets rather than rabbit food, which is not fortified.

Rabbits and guinea pigs are far more vulnerable to heat than cold and are at risk above roughly 28°C. Keep them indoors in the hottest months with shade, ventilation and a frozen water bottle to lie against.
